Three week intense training course for Patrolman and Investigators with interest in working Complex Vehicle Theft Criminal Group Investigations. This course will properly prepare investigators - entering an Auto Theft Unit or Regional Auto Theft Task Force - for the demands of working sophisticated individuals and/or organized criminal groups. This course will provide a clear understanding of the tools necessary for success when working complex cases such as; Start to end of a Chop Shop investigation and/or an active Auto Theft group. This course will cover in detail: managing informants, conducting surveillance, undercover operations and working undercover, writing search warrants - all specific to auto theft - as well as understanding VIN structure, Identifying VIN switched vehicles - Methods and Trends. The students will learn by implementing the classroom material into a weeklong training exercise - investigating an organized criminal group, utilizing all investigative tools.

This course has been long overdue - putting vehicle theft investigators at the top of their craft in investigations for the 21st century. This course will put the investigators in a position to begin working cases successfully and safely once assigned to their unit without making the mistakes which could compromise a case and the safety of those involved.
